We raised $5,148, and support SHUBROTA SAHA to fight with Ankle disorder, a serious disease.
Shubrota Kumer Saha, a SUST alumni (Sociology, 16th Batch -2005-06 Session) has been suffering from a severe Ankle arthrodesis for long years. He was treated from long term in Chennai, India and many parts of Bangladesh (9 surgeries have been performed in these 5 years), spent around 33 Lakhs BDT, but not recovered yet. Now, he requires three more surgeries to come back to normal life. As a government college teacher, he is unable to bear all his medical expenses. We came forward to stand by him as much as we can, thus. I raised nearly $5,000.00 by using FB fundraiser to support him to fight with serious ankle disorder.
Some of us already know that he was seriously injured in a road accident on November 15, 2015. He was initially treated at Osmani Medical College Hospital however his condition deteriorated and he was moved to Greenlife Medical College Hospital in Dhaka on November 26, 2015. From the very beginning, his legs were caged for the medical reason. While in such worse condition, he underwent 3 surgeries on his leg 3 times. He returned there after 48 days of treatment. Later on 03.06.2018, he was admitted to Green Life Medical College Hospital for the second time. Subsequently, the leg cage was reattached to his lower part of his abdomen (ILIZAROV apparatus ring) through two surgeries procedures.
At that time, he was admitted for 18 days while the cage was attached to his leg for about 13 months. This cage was later opened on 26.08.2018 through surgery procedure. During the long two years of treatment, he had to go to Dhaka by ambulance for 2/3 consecutive months for follow-up treatment. Moreover, he had to go through follow-up treatment from a specialist doctor in Sylhet every month. These two years before the cage was removed, the dressing had to be done 2/3 days in a row.We thought he would be able to walk normally as soon as doctor removed his leg cage, but in reality, he could not able to. The reality is that his legs have been saved as a result of this long treatment. The doctor then advised him to go to India for better treatment. He was first treated at Apollo Spectra Hospital in Chennai in July 2017 followed by doing some research in few hospitals. The flesh and bones of his legs were much weaker thereafter.
Thus, the doctor advised him for the long term treatment. According to the doctor’s advice, he had to give injections and medicine every day for about 6 months. Subsequently, for the second time in August 2019, a major operation was successfully performed for such worse infection. In December 2019, he went to Chennai for follow-up treatment for the third time and since then, while he was undergoing follow-up treatment at Fortis Hospital and Max Hospital in Delhi, the Delhi doctor said that his treatment was going well. Although he was supposed to go for follow-up treatment in June 2020, but he did not. And unfortunately, It is too late because of the COVID epidemic. After the introduction of medical visa for India, on 12 December 2020, he again went to Chennai, India for follow-up treatment. There, the doctor observed various test reports and advised that if he had been performed two operations at a time, he would be able to move normally.
The treatment he received in Sylhet and Dhaka after the accident was held initially with the support of his family, classmates in the department, seniors, juniors and a fundraising for him in 2016 (about Rs 13 lakh). Subsequently (2016-2020) four trips to and from India in three years, 2 operations, injections, medicine and all other efforts were done on his own, with the help of his friends from all departments in the 2005-06 session and with the help of his close senior, junior brothers. So far, a total of 9 surgeries have been performed in these 5 years. The treatment process is often time consuming and extremely expensive. Yet his movements are very limited. If he stands for a long time, his legs become swollen. At present, if he has 2 operations more on his leg twice, he will be able to move normally as per his doctor, which is very expensive and time consuming. Both of these operations will bring him back to a healthy, normal life. During this difficult time, it would not have been possible for him to come to this point without the help of SUSTians and all generous people, who had been undergoing treatment for 5 years. He will be very grateful to everyone who stand by him.He can not stand alone. Among the many things that we can really boast about human being, it is our best to try to stand by others while at somebody’s danger. Regardless of the request, let us stand beside Shubrota Saha. The amount of money is not very big, but believe it is possible that we all stand together. Nobody has the power to save anyone, but everyone has the power to stand by. Let’s stand beside Shubrota. Specially requested to all my the facebook friends and sustians.
